ProForm meets local tastes with seven regional joint compounds

May 16, 2024

These regionally specific topping formulas include lightweight, tinted and machine-grade options

While project size, weather conditions and level of finish all play a role in selecting the right type of joint compound, sometimes the best choice comes down to each drywall finishing contractor’s personal preference and location.

That’s why ProForm Finishing Products manufactures seven types of ready mix joint compound formulated to regional preferences to complement its nationally distributed ready mix joint compounds.

This article will compare regional joint compounds and their use in the five levels of finish.

ProForm regional ready mix joint compounds available in the Southeast

  • ProForm® Concrete Cover Joint Compound: A heavy, all-purpose joint compound formulated to adhere to concrete, including concrete ceilings typically found in high-rise buildings. Similar performance characteristics as other heavy joint compounds and suitable for finish Levels 1–5. Manufactured in Orlando and mostly available in Florida.
  • ProForm® All Purpose Machine Grade Joint Compound: A vinyl base joint compound designed to efficiently run through taping tools and suitable for finish Levels 1–5.
  • ProForm® Ultra Lite® All Purpose Joint Compound: Recommended for Level 1–5 finishes, this joint compound offers the advantages of ProForm All Purpose but in the lightest formulation made by ProForm. This product is ideal for finishers who like to use one mud for the whole project but prefer working with a lightweight joint compound.

ProForm regional ready mix joint compounds distributed in the Northeast

  • ProForm® Concrete Cover Joint Compound: Just like its Southern counterpart, this joint compound is ideal for Level 1–5 finishes on concrete surfaces.
  • ProForm® Ultra Lite® All Purpose Joint Compound: Suggested for Level 1–5 finishes with all the advantages of ProForm All Purpose but in the lightest formulation made by ProForm. Ideal for finishers who prefer using one mud for the whole project, but like working with a lightweight joint compound.

  • ProForm® Topping Joint Compound: Ideal for use only on Level 3 finish due to how easy it is to sand. However, don’t use it for taping.
  • ProForm® Taping Lite Joint Compound: A lightweight joint compound formulated to provide the best bond with tape. It’s best used only on Level 1 finish.
  • ProForm® Tinted Lite™ Joint Compound: This product takes the ProForm® Lite Blue® Joint Compound formula and adds a very pale yellow tint. This tinting allows drywall finishers in the Midwest and Central regions to find drywall imperfections and spots that require repairs during Level 2 and Level 3 coats. It can be used on Level 2–5 finishes.

A special ProForm ready mix formulation for Texas and the Southwest

ProForm® Lite Joint Compound is a lightweight drywall mud formulated to meet the preferences of drywall finishers in Texas. It has an easier pull and spread and is 30% lighter and has 33% less shrinkage than standard ProForm joint compound. It can be used on Level 2-5 finishes.

While it was developed for Texas drywall finishers, ProForm Lite can be purchased throughout the Southwest.
