The new inpatient hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will offer a unique approach to healing, assessing and teaching. This $1.79 billion addition is slated to open in 2026. At 1.9-million square feet, it will be The Ohio State’s largest single-facilities project.

When completed, the world-class academic medical center’s inpatient hospital will have up to 820 beds in light-filled private-room settings, elevating patient-centered care, safety and physician medical training. The environment, services and processes will all support a superior patient experience.

A multidisciplinary team studied the project’s operation, function, engineering and more, adding a large patient care tower to the existing campus and maximizing space efficiency. The new inpatient hospital addresses phasing strategies, optimized functional flows, travel times and distances throughout the campus. This data-centric process helped the architectural team design a more efficient building that fosters a higher quality of medical care. This project is part of OSU’s long-term planning vision and Wexner Medical Center’s strategic plan: Framework 2.0.
