National Gypsum works to reduce the miles board travels to a customer. The company ships approximately 250,000 orders annually. When a customer places an order, a computer system tells the Customer Service Center which plant to use as the primary source for the material to save freight miles. It will also list a secondary plant for the customer. This system saves millions in diesel fuel costs and carbon emissions annually.
National Gypsum's network of plants places its products near major metropolitan areas, saving thousands in transportation costs. Raw materials are often nearby, too. Gypsum mines and quarries located near plants also reduce raw material transportation. The company has these plant/quarry combinations in Indiana, Kansas, Texas, Michigan, and Arizona. |
