SOUND-DAMPING EFFECTS OF ACOUSTICALLY ENHANCED
GOLD BOND^® BRAND SOUNDBREAK™ GYPSUM BOARD

National Gypsum has launched an interactive online audio demonstration of how Gold Bond^® BRAND SoundBreak™ Gypsum Board stands up to four common multimedia sounds, available at www.soundbreak.info in the tools section.

The interactive comparison allows users to contrast the loudness of various sounds from three rooms – the media room where they originate and two adjoining rooms, one separated from the media room by a standard wall and the other by a SoundBreak wall. In each example, the intensity of the sound heard in the SoundBreak room is half to one-quarter as loud as the same sound heard in the standard room.

“The online audio comparison between SoundBreak and traditional gypsum board is an immediate, impactful demonstration of SoundBreak’s sound-damping abilities,” said Chris Pinckney, product manager, gypsum systems for National Gypsum. “SoundBreak can achieve Sound Transmission Class ratings of 53 or above in most wall assemblies, which means it can reduce most normal multimedia sounds to levels no more audible to the person in the room next door than a quiet whisper.”

”Introduced by National Gypsum this past spring, SoundBreak is a cost-effective, acoustically enhanced gypsum board designed to reduce the transmission of airborne sound between living spaces within buildings. It is a thinner, less expensive, more reliable alternative to traditional construction methods and answers the growing demand for increased privacy and less sound intrusion in apartments, condominiums, townhouses, schools, healthcare settings and home theaters.

SoundBreak installs and finishes like traditional drywall and can be used as a single-layer application or as a component of multi-layered wall assemblies anywhere there’s a concern about sound transmission between rooms or dwelling units. It is available in 4’ wide sheets that are 8, 9, 10 and 12 feet in length.

SoundBreak Gypsum Board was developed combining technology from National Gypsum and from Quiet Solution, a division of Serious Materials.
